Abdul Rahman

a palm oil plantation village in Sarawak, Borneo

Abdul Rahman is a crane operator in a Sarawak junkyard, where he dissects rusty tractors and trailers amidst a map of palm oil plantations. He starts before dawn, working with the glow of a single beam of light illuminating the dust particles that he is inexplicably drawn to. As the village dogs zigzag across his path, he worries about deteriorating eyesight and hands that might make knowing those names pointless when he can no longer climb into the crane cab.
