Johannes "Hans" van der Merwe
a fishing village on the Skeleton Coast, Namibia
Spending days on long, dusty roads between Namibia's Skeleton Coast and inland towns, Hans uses his obsession with tidiness and detail as his downtime therapy. Intricately organizing shoeboxes of receipts and paperwork, he keeps track of his journeys and captures the moments in between work—the diesel-smell symphony and the alluring scent of various dirts after rain. Nights are visited by intrusive thoughts of mechanical failures and financial strain, as Hans wrestles with keeping his life tidy despite the chaos on road and at home.
