Khaled works as an oil rig roughneck, toiling in the harsh, unforgiving conditions offshore to provide for his mother and sisters back home in a refugee settlement outside Amman. After each grueling stint, he returns to his dim, cramped concrete shelter where he keeps a poignant collection of the worn, battered shoes of his deceased relatives—each pair a silent testament to his heritage and loss. By night, in the isolation of his room, Khaled transforms the mechanical rhythm of machinery and labor into unexpected musical narratives.
