Khamla Vongxay

a river town on the Mekong in Laos

Khamla Vongxay has spent his life maintaining the quiet dignity of the provincial courthouse, a place where justice feels more like the daily sweep of dust than grand speeches. Each morning, long before the town stirs, he walks through the echoing halls with his broom and thermos, thinking about the letters he never had the courage to send. At night, he's kept awake by the purr of idling engines, a lonely warning of debts owed and unsaid words that hover like specters in his mind.
