Kimo Lau

a papaya farm on the Big Island, Hawai'i

Kimo Lau grew up on the windward slopes of the Big Island, learning from his father the art of appraising small treasures in their family pawnshop. He inherited not only the shop but the fragile papaya orchard that surrounds their weathered bungalow. Over decades, Kimo has built an intricate knowledge of his neighbors, similar to how he knows each dog's name, blending his life with their stories while walking the line between survival and community care.
