Sólveig Hrafnsdóttir

a geothermal town in Iceland's Westfjords

Sólveig works odd hours at a small-town bakery in Iceland's geothermal Westfjords, where the natural heat facilitates her baking. Used to tackling practical problems head-on, she built a simple wooden coffin in her garage, an undeniable nod to the harsh reality of her steam-filled home. Despite the warmth from the earth and ovens, she navigates a web of nocturnal fears, most vividly conjured by the unsettling idleness of a car's engine late at night, sparking imaginations of impending news or visitors.
